You know that I am a huge education advocate for your fitness or coaching career. You have to keep educating yourself to reach the top 5% of your niche. No exceptions!
And, even with all the education in the world, you still need to get more clients and thrill them with your exceptional services so they refer all their friends, and stay with you long term.
Today, I want to focus on simple (free and low cost) ways to get more clients and keep them coming back for more.
Let’s begin….
1. Let’s start with the single most important aspect of your business, which is also the most overlooked. Why should anyone care about you or your business? What makes you special, unique or a standout. Please do not say, “I get results!” We all get results for our clients and members. Seriously, what makes you a rock star at what you do? If you do not know, and cannot clearly define it in 5 words or less, you are in trouble. If you don’t know why you are a client magnet, nobody else knows either. Decide what makes you totally unique and special so people will notice you, remember and contact you for your services.
NOTE: Look for some cool training coming up on building your personal brand.
2. Are you everywhere? Are you making it easy for potential clients to find you? AT A MINIMUM, you should have the following: A blog, Facebook account, fan page, Twitter account, LinkedIn, Google+, Youtube channel, a press release, and a media kit. You should be networking in your community, volunteering at local charity events, and attending other social events that are also attended by your community’s most prominent people. If you are not doing these things, you have no right to complain if your business is not doing well.
3. Are you communicating with your existing clients/members on a regular basis via email, text, facebook and twitter. If not, you cannot complain if people become complacent and “fall off” over time. Communicate regularly and add value to their weekly routine (even when they are not coaching or training with you). http://www.fitnews.tv can help you with this for as little at $9.
4. Are you using local directories so new clients can find you easily? You must get listed with Google places, Yelp, CitySearch and Hot Frog. Also, make sure you get listed – at 100% NO COST – on http://www.fitnessprodirectory.com. This is for all types of coaches, mentors, trainers and gyms. Add articles, classifieds, events and more.
5. Remember, you need to KEEP YOUR CLIENTS. It’s better (less expensive and easier) to keep you CURRENT CLIENTS happy, rather than getting new ones. Check out this complete training video on how to dramatically IMPROVE CLIENT RETENTION. http://www.clientretentionmachine.com
BONUS: If you offer fitness classes, personal training or boot camp classes, you can crush the competition for $27 with The Client Grabber. http://www.theclientgrabber.com That’s it for now. Get to work on this so you have a successful business.

Hey I was just wondering what a media kit is and where i get it. I have been doing almost all of the stuff you said to get noticed. Nothing has come of it for me yet. Still hoping it will turn around soon. I have not volunteered anywhere yet though. I am not really sure where a good place to volunteer would be. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi Paul, Thanks for writing. You say “I have been doing almost all of the stuff you said to get noticed. Nothing has come of it for me yet”. Please show me what you’ve done. Give details. Show me links, press releases, indexing, your blogs, videos, white papers, linkedin account, facebook fan page, etc. If you do not have a lot (or nearly all of this) to show me, you have not yet scratched the surface of what needs to be done. I’ll help you and you must do your part. Provide info please. I will add info on media kits soon.
