Guest blog post from Scott Bolinger
You want more traffic to your fitness and coaching website AND more sales.
There’s a million different things you can do to achieve this, but sometimes it gets so overwhelming that you just do nothing.
Here’s 7 things that take less than 10 minutes to do (each), but will all drastically improve your online business. Pick 1 thing and do it each day for the next week.
Be Clear
If I visit your website, will I know who you are, what you do, and how to get it within 5 seconds?
This is so important! Our attention span on the web is so short, if you make your visitors think at all they’ll just click the back button and go to your competitors.
Sometimes it’s hard to see your business the way other people do, so ask a friend to look at your site for you, and make adjustments.
Put your contact information on every page
Make sure a phone number and/or email is in a visible spot on every page.
Social Media icons with links to your profile pages are great too, just make sure your visitor sees them easily.
Collect Leads
Do you offer your visitors an ethical bribe for email addresses?
Give away something of value free in exchange for an email address. Building your list is of critical importance, and the sooner you start, the better.
- Don’t ask for phone number unless you have to
- Don’t get stingy with the free giveaway, make it awesome
- Use a complete (and affordable) service like FitNews.TV
Put Keywords in the Right Places On Each Page
Do a little keyword research if necessary using the Google Keyword Tool.
Get at least 5 keyword phrases, and put them in the <title> tag, headline, and page content of each page at the very least. Click the image to the left for an example.
Use variations, and don’t put the same keywords on any 2 pages. For example, your homepage could use “Irvine Personal Trainer,” and “Fitness Training Irvine.” Your services page could use “Strength Training in Orange County,” etc.
Get listed & verified on Google Local
If you have a local business, this is the easiest and most important link you can get.
This lets Google know you are a legitimate business, and you can be found in the natural search, and on Google Maps.
Go to www.google.com/local/add/businessCenter and fill out your listing. Use natural keywords in the title such as “Pasadena Fitness Boot Camp,” but don’t overdo it.
Fill out all of your business information, and make sure to verify your listing by phone or postcard.
(For more free local link opportunities, go to getlisted.org)
Put a Facebook like button/box on your site
Personally, I prefer the like box, which shows a stream of your posts and faces of fans:
This allows you to build your “likes” much faster to connect with your audience.
Go to https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like-box/ and fill out your information.
Click “Get code” and copy/paste that into the HTML of your website. If you are using WordPress, you can paste the code into a text widget and put it in your sidebar.
Bonus – Get code for a Twitter button here: https://twitter.com/about/resources/buttons
Get Verified With Google Webmaster Tools & Submit a Sitemap
This is a bit more advanced, but if you know how to FTP a file to your site or add a meta tag, then you can do this. Otherwise, forward this to your web guy.
Go to http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ and follow the steps to verify your site.
Once your site is verified, submit a sitemap. This helps Google to know you are trustworthy, and helps your site get indexed better.
That’s the 7 things I think are most important, how about you?
Did I miss anything, or do you think something else should have made the list? Leave your comments below.

No problem John. You’d be surprised how many people forget that one!
