The psychology of successful entrepreneurship
Regardless of what you want to do business wise, you may find that you either have ‘it’ or you don’t (yet). You may watch with both awe and envy at the way in which others who are in the same field manage to get every client they approach, or close deals with such ease. In the business of entrepreneurship, especially, having a certain ethos regarding the psychology of sales is of huge importance, as you are dealing with individuals every day, sometimes face to face. If you find that you are not quite achieving what you planned within your business, here are some tactics which you can to make use of if you want to succeed in running your own business.
- Ambition.
You need to make a set decision that working for yourself is what you want to do and is not merely something you would like to try out or dabble in. Make a decision and stick with it, knowing that success in your field and making sales is your number one priority and your responsibility.
- Accept responsibility.
It is not always easy to admit your mistakes and faults, but in the world of running your own business, , means that all failures and accomplishments are ultimately your own. So if you mess up from time to time, don’t point fingers to avoid looking bad-even if you feel your client is at fault.
- Set goals.
Successful entrepreneurs know what they want to achieve and therefore plan on how they will achieve it. Decide on what you want, how you will get it, and be consistent and stick with your plan.
- Self-belief.
As an entrepreneur, there will be times when you don’t get the sale you were betting on, there will undoubtedly be failures and there will be numerous negative experiences. The ability to get back on the horse and keep trying is a key ingredient to success. If you let the negatives affect you, chances are you will not achieve and appreciate the positives of your business.
- Self-discipline.
At the end of the day you are responsible for your own income. This means that you can’t allow yourself to become lazy. Sitting back and waiting for sales to come your way will leave your pockets empty, so if you want to be successful you need to be willing to work hard for it. Create a schedule and stick to it, and be prepared to work after hours and on weekends if necessary.
- Flexibility
You will undoubtedly come across clients from all walks of life. Some of these clients may be delightful and an absolute pleasure to work with, while others may be harsh, unfriendly and demanding. You need to have a relatively thick skin when it comes to running your own business. You also need to be able to adjust your own techniques and ways according to the kind of client you are dealing with.
- Empathy
You will need to be able to understand and empathize with your clients. You need to understand and work according to their specific needs. Make each client a priority and be sure to not see any one client as any more important than another. Possessing high levels of empathy will benefit you greatly in raising your reputation and receiving positive feedback.
- Confidence
Potential clients will be put off by a lack of confidence on your part as they will be given the impression that you are unsure of what you are doing, and will be unlikely to part with money with your shaky advice. Being confident, however, certainly does not mean being arrogant. Being overly confident and even pushy will just as likely scare off potential clients just as much as being under confident.
