Yes….. For about 2 weeks I’ve been sick (the good stuff: jacked up nose, sinus, cough, tired, etc). Yeah!!!!
Why would I share this with you?
I know the reason why I got sick.
In the last 90 days I’ve done a lot: martial arts belt testing, travel, charity, tough workouts, 70 hour work weeks, family stuff, my dad was in the hospital and much more.
So, what is the lesson?
I learned (and obviously didn’t apply) that I need to modify the the total amount of work/tasks in any given day/week when I have a heavier than usual workload. Maybe 10 years ago, when I’d do a big product launch, I would ALWAYS get sick afterwards. I put everything I had into each launch. That’s good. Yet, I needed to temporarily cut back on workout intensity, travel and other obligations so I didn’t blow up.
For years, I was “balanced”. I got proper rest, exercise, work/life balance and fun travel.
Fast forward to this year. Too much happened all at once, and continues to escalate. Aside from building out our new penthouse (huge task), and expanding my services globally, my wife’s business has exploded this year (new art debut, new TV shows, international speaking gigs, awards and much more. She needed my help. We also got another dog (French bulldog named Lucy). So…… yeah…… good and very busy.
Basically, my body gave me the middle finger. This is true even though I gain a huge benefit from things such as short naps, meditation, chiropractic, massage, foam roller and lots of water. Still, it was too much.
I’m about 90% better as I write this to you.
I NEEDED TO REST!
YOUR LESSON: Success is what you want. And, I’m here to serve you any way I can. As you get a full plate, be sure to remove anything that does not serve you. Take the needed time to rest, recover, recuperate and replenish.
When you know you are going to have a bigger demand on your mental and physical resources, you must prepare in advance. Get more sleep. Get a massage. Drink more water. Meditate.
Basically, you and I only have so much energy in a given day. You need to reallocate it for periods of time during times of high demand. Listen to your body (in advance when possible).
Yes, this is part of your entrepreneurial training.
