My Picks for the 25 Best Bars in Carlsbad
Tower39 Rooftop Lounge
Sip and savor on top of Carlsbad’s newest oceanfront rooftop bar.

📍 Google Maps | 🍻 Tower39 Rooftop Lounge Website | 🍽️ Food Served | 📞 +1 442 333 9892
Tower39 Rooftop Lounge is the newest and second official rooftop bar in Carlsbad. It’s on top of the Springhill Suites by Marriott in Carlsbad Village. This hotel bar is one block from the beach and has panoramic views of the ocean along with fireplaces and comfy, open-air lounge seating.
Tower39 Rooftop has great drinks and small plates, but you can’t go wrong with a Manhattan or mule cocktail and sliders. The bar opens at 3 pm. I recommend coming for sunset and staying overnight at the Springhill Suites, one of my top picks for where to stay in Carlsbad!
Witch Creek Winery
Appreciate Carlsbad culture at this coffee shop by day and winery by night.

📍 Google Maps | 🍻 Witch Creek Winery Website | 🍽️ Food Served | 📞 +1 760 720 7499
Witch Creek Winery is one of the best coffee shops in San Diego by day when it’s called Sleeping Tiger. But it turns into a winery in the afternoon.
Witch Creek offers over 10 locally batched limited edition wines to taste and hosts weekly live musicians. Many locals are wine club members here so it’s always a fun hangout.
Dini’s By The Sea
Sip drinks across from the beach while admiring the sunset.

📍 Google Maps | 🍻 Dini’s By The Sea Website | 🍽️ Food Served | 📞 +1 760 434 6000
Dini’s by the Sea is my favorite dog-friendly restaurant and bar in San Diego! On one side of the restaurant’s outdoor patio, you’ll find normal dining. The other patio is for sunsets, snacks, drinks, and hanging out.
Dini’s is a beloved dive bar where locals unite. Its nachos, wings, and espresso martinis are great. For a larger view of the ocean and fancier drinks, I recommend Chandler’s (found in the linked travel guide above).
🍸 Pro Tip: Stay for happy hour deals. Order the chicken wings mixed with 3 sauces combined.
Señor Grubby’s Carlsbad
Watch a sports game and enjoy a full bar at an elevated local watering hole.

📍 Google Maps | 🍻 Señor Grubby’s Website | 🍽️ Food Served | 📞 +1 760 729 6040
Señor Grubby’s Carlsbad has a delightful staff, delectable burritos, and a variety of drinks at both the indoor and outdoor bars. Try its pineapple burrito, vegan chorizo, house cold brew, and seasonal cocktails.
The Compass
Try unique drinks at a dog-friendly gastropub.

Support a lively, family-owned neighborhood dive bar

📍 Google Maps | 🍻 Mas Fina Cantina Website | 🍽️ Food Served | 📞 +1 760 434 3497
Mas Fina Cantina, known by locals as Cantina, is a long-time staple. It’s known for its good drinks, fun casual ambiance, and jukebox. Mas Fina Cantina has over 2 decades in Carlsbad Village with inexpensive Mexican food and great staff.
🍸 Pro Tip: Looking for things to do in Carlsbad? Grab a drink at Mas Fina Cantina before seeing a comedy show or taking a salsa dance class across the street at New Village Arts!
Park 101
Dine, lounge, and sip 2 blocks from the beach.

OAK + Elixir
Dine at a local hotspot for food and wine pairings and events.
📍 Google Maps | 🍻 Oak + Elixir Website | 🍽️ Food Served | 📞 +1 760 453 7853
Oak + Elixir is a quaint and romantic bar on State Street right by all the action in Carlsbad Village. My favorite massage parlor, Spa Samudra, is above Oak + Elixir too.
From specialty wine to a variety of tasty bites, this is a great place to get drinks before dinner or for a nightcap. Check out the event calendar for special sip and paint nights.
Like Oak + Elixir? You’re in luck because they are opening another bar in Encinitas with an ocean view!
Crackheads
Chill in the heart of Carlsbad Village at this cute shipping container-style bar.

📍 Google Maps | 🍻 Crackheads Website | 🍽️ Food Served | 📞 +1 442 500 2188
Crackheads is one of two outdoor shipping container-converted spaces on the corner of Carlsbad Village and State Street. Right next to Choice Juicery, Crackheads offers chicken specialties throughout the day and quite a selection of drinks, including a mean honey margarita.
Enjoy a fireplace and bring your dog. Crackheads also have Taco Tuesday and other food trucks throughout the month. You can also grab a drink here during the Wednesday Carlsbad Farmers Market.
Gelson’s La Costa/Carlsbad
Drink and relax at the bar while someone else shops for your groceries.
📍 Google Maps | 🍻 Gelson’s Website | 🍽️ Food Served | 📞 +1 760 632 7511
Gelson’s is an upscale grocery store at the tip of South Carlsbad in the La Costa neighborhood. This supermarket has a full bar inside!
If you come with a grocery list, someone will do your grocery shopping for you while you enjoy food or drinks at the bar. This is a unique bar option if you’re into novelty or productivity. You can also come here to try before you buy, especially wine.
Costa Azul Winery
Meander down to the newest small-batch winery in Carlsbad Village.

📍 Google Maps | 🍻 Costa Azul Winery Website | 🍽️ Food Not Served | 📞 +1 760 579 2800
Costa Azul, owned by Solterra Winery in the next beach town over, is one of the newest wineries in Carlsbad! With glowing blue lights and heaters, Costa Azul is a very cozy tasting room. They make small-batch wines you can sometimes taste directly from the barrel, along with hand-poured wine candles. Costa Azul has a great membership to access take-home bottles, as well as tasting flights.

Drink at a local Irish pub.
📍 Google Maps | 🍻 Hennessey’s Tavern Website | 🍽️ Food Served | 📞 +1 760 729 6951
Hennessey’s Tavern is a fun local Irish pub with live music, sports games, and freshly squeezed boozy lemonade!
The indoor and outdoor seating and attentive and friendly service make this a go-to bar for many locals. Hennessey’s Tavern has a fantastic pretzel burger. This pub is especially packed during local city street fairs, holidays, and festivals.
Jalisco Cantina
Grab margaritas and tacos overlooking the farmers market in Carlsbad Village.

📍 Google Maps | 🍻Jalisco Cantina Website | 🍽️ Food Served | 📞 +1 760 841 8404
The self-pour tap bar, Barrel Republic officially closed and is now Jalisco Cantina.
Its large garage-like windows offer a great view right in the middle of the buzzing Carlsbad Village.
I suggest coming here during farmer’s market nights for some prime people-watching. Jalisco Cantina makes tasty tacos and cocktails and is on its way to becoming one of the best bars in the area.
Napatini Bistro and Wine Bar
Try a unique DIY wine wall-tasting experience.
📍 Google Maps | 🍻 Napatini Bistro and Wine Bar Website | 🍽️ Food Served | 📞 +1 760 330 0542
Napatini Bistro and Wine Bar is a fairly new spot in Carlsbad. The owners relocated from the San Francisco area, known for Napa Valley wine, and brought their selection of California grapes to North County, San Diego. Like the Barrel Republic above, Napatini has an interactive, self-pour system.
The Coyote Bar & Grill
Grab drinks at a full bar with weekly rotating entertainment

📍 Google Maps | 🍻 The Coyote Bar & Grill Website | 🍽️ Food Served | 📞 +1 760 729 4695
The Coyote Bar & Grill has the best people-watching in all of Carlsbad! With a spacious outdoor patio, live music, and boozy drinks, the local and intergenerational crowd can be seen dancing up a storm.
People really enjoy themselves here. The drinks are typical, but the vibes are special. Also, on the weekends, the inside restaurant and bar turns into a DJ nightclub.
🍸 Pro Tip: Want all the entertainment without the price tag? Walk upstairs and watch from above in the Village Faire Shops plaza or Sushi Taisho’s patio.
Dave & Buster’s Carlsbad
Drink up weekly specials inside the mall at a fun arcade bar.
📍 Google Maps | 🍻 Dave & Buster’s Website | 🍽️ Food Served | 📞 +1 760 576 3800
While most bars in town boast a beautiful outdoor sunshine-filled patio, what do San Diegans do when it’s raining? There are only so many indoor bars. While Dave & Buster’s is an entertaining arcade for kids and teens, it also has a full bar for adults.
Dave & Buster’s Carlsbad has a $5 weekday happy hour and plenty of TVs to watch a game. If you like sweet drinks, I recommend the Backwoods Blueberry lemonade for happy hour.
Boar Cross’n
Play billiards and sip well drinks at a fun dive bar.

📍 Google Maps | 🍻 Boar Cross’n Website | 🍽️ Food Not Served | 📞 +1 760 729 2989
Boar Cross’n is your typical no-frills dive bar, across the street from the train station in Carlsbad Village. My friends and I come here to play pool and sip on blueberry Stoli vodka sodas.
When the weather’s nice, you can enjoy its great outdoor patio. Boar Cross’n is a bar where you will run into some of the same people the more you go.
Paon Restaurant & Bar
Sneak into a corridor tucked behind a French restaurant for a delightful wine tasting.
📍 Google Maps | 🍻 Paon Website | 🍽️ Food Served | 📞 +1 760 729 7377
Paon has a warm and inviting tasting room around the corner from its main restaurant in Carlsbad Village. Paon offers an elevated experience in this beach town. I highly recommend doing a wine-tasting flight and grabbing food off the main menu. The staff is super knowledgable and the wine is divine. On a budget? Save money and visit Paon for happy hour!
The Deck at 264
Enjoy partial ocean views at a chic rooftop tapas and cocktail lounge.

📍 Google Maps | 🍻 The Deck Website | 🍽️ Food Served | 📞 +1 760 720 3737
The Deck is a rooftop restaurant and bar above Fresco 264 Restaurant with a totally separate menu. It has partial views of the ocean, fireplaces, and luxury lounge seating with private curtains.
The Deck is quite expensive but offers a thoughtfully curated culinary experience. I suggest ordering a dessert board and sipping seasonal cocktails at sunset before having dinner downstairs.
Barrio Eat Mexican
Drink outdoors at an open-seating concept eatery.

📍 Google Maps | 🍻 Barrio Eat Mexican Website | 🍽️ Food Served | 📞 +1 760 453 7242
Barrio Eat Mexican has a hybrid bar that’s technically right on the sidewalk in the middle of Carlsbad Village. It almost feels like a walk-up bar, reminiscent of swim-up bars in Mexico. If you like tender carne asada and happy hour margaritas, you’ll enjoy Barrio Eat Mexican.
🍸 Pro Tip: Grab happy hour drinks at Barrio during the Wednesday farmers market and bring your pup to enjoy the dog menu.
Carruth Cellars
Sip wine in a tucked-away hidden cellar lounge.

📍 Google Maps | 🍻 Carruth Cellars Website | 🍽️ Food Served | 📞 +1 760 334 6506
Carruth Cellars Carlsbad is one of 4 locations in San Diego. Carruth is for wine lovers. You can find Carruth in a somewhat hidden corridor between a coffee shop and a fancy restaurant.
Make sure to try the bottle with the unicorn logo (a red blend). You can also order a variety of food. Vegans can order a hummus platter from Babba Coffee next door.
Jeune et Jolie
Savor fancy drinks in an elegant restaurant bar at the end of a busy street.

📍 Google Maps | 🍻 Jeune et Jolie Website | 🍽️ Food Served | 📞 +1 760 637 5266
Jeune et Jolie is one of the best restaurants in Carlsbad. It’s a swanky French restaurant and bar at the end of the block in Carlsbad Village. You can’t go wrong with any seat in the house. Jeune et Jolie has a beautiful patio and colorful communal bar.
Order drinks and an appetizer or dessert here, before dinner elsewhere. Even if you can’t get a reservation, I highly recommend the first-come first-served seating. It’s perfect for enjoying the magic of this Michelin Star location.
Pure Project
Hang out in central Carlsbad Village at a local brewery.

📍 Google Maps | 🍻 Pure Project Website | 🍽 Food Trucks Nearby | 📞 +1 760 278 7550
Pure Project is a craft brewery and taproom with a fantastic outdoor patio to enjoy with large groups. I recommend getting a beer-tasting flight and learning about its beers on tap from a Pure Project “cicerone.” Staff will be happy to help you pick the perfect pint.
🍸 Pro Tip: Hungry? Order food at Mas Fina Cantina across the street to bring over.
Same Same
Grab cocktails and listen to a DJ set in Carlsbad Village.

📍 Google Maps | 🍻 Same Same Website | 🍽️ Food Served | 📞 +1 760 994 0699
Same Same is on the second floor of the Carlsbad Village Faire Shops, above Coyote Bar & Grill. It gets packed during its late-night DJ sets.
This elevated bar has a unique ambiance and decor. It has an eclectic menu of strong craft cocktails like its Holy Shishito. Same Same also has a menu full of seasonal, gourmet fusion food. Order the pork belly gnocchi if it’s on the menu again – that was a highlight of my visit!
Burgeon Beer Company
Sip on local award-winning beer in the business area of Carlsbad.
📍 Google Maps | 🍻 Burgeon Beer Website | 🍽️ Food Trucks Nearby | 📞 +1 760 814 2548
Burgeon Beer is an Award-Winning craft brewery that put its flagship tasting room in Carlsbad on the map for beer lovers. Burgeon has 16 taps, growlers, 4-packs, and new releases available to try before you buy.
