digital nomad life involves weighing the pros and cons of every destination before you choose it as your next work location.

As simple as it may sound, digital nomad life involves weighing the pros and cons of every destination before you choose it as your next work location. Various factors are involved in deciding which city or country is suitable to work as a digital nomad. These factors may include basic facilities for digital nomads, weather, internet connectivity, hotels and accommodation, food, travel and the lifestyle of people at that particular location.

What all contribute to a great working location for a digital nomad depends on his choice of profession. While the different profession has different requirements it is essential for any location to have a great internet connection, it should be cost-effective and should be motivating you to work well. Below are three selected destinations for digital nomads to maintain a healthy work environment and earn money.

1)    PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC

Prague has recently been on top of the digital nomad list because of its notable historical significance, the low cost of living, excellent transport and culture, a happening nightlife and mesmerizing architecture.

Accommodation and Wi-Fi: The city has a lot of options for accommodation including AirBnB, hostels and hotels. You may find AirBnB rental apartments for $1000-$1700; however, hotel rooms may be a little expensive. There are other local rental options which may cost you $770 a month which should be quite affordable.

A great speed internet connection is available in all cafes and co-working space.

Transportation: Prague has a great public transport system with trams and metro stations. You can also walk to several places if you are staying at a central location in the city. The cost of public transport ticket is inexpensive. Also, available are cabs in the city but it is quite a task to see the city in a cab because of the deadly traffic.

Food and Healthcare: In Prague, a low-cost meal would cost you as low as $6.30. The prices of the meal are not low, you may find a reasonable place if you avoid an area with a high tourist population.

The healthcare facility in Prague is great with specialty hospitals and doctors with free emergency service to be provided to every E.U. member while others can avail the healthcare services by paying in cash.

Weather and Crime Rate: the weather is never too extreme for you to avoid the city and along with the crime rate related to assault and violence minimum.

2)    KOH LANTA, THAILAND

Thailand has been popular among the digital nomads because of the amazing weather, a lot of expat presence and the availability of co-working space. The island of Koh Lanta provides scenic beauty and the perfect place for remote workers to reside for a short while.

Accommodation and Wi-Fi: Koh Lanta provides a number of options for living and rental. It provides great value for money with rooms as low as $300 per month. The Wi-Fi speed, however, is not remarkable with 16mbps and there is not really a free Wi-Fi option.

Transportation: There is no proper public transport system on the island. You can either rent a motorbike or ride in a tuk-tuk to move from place to place.

Food and Healthcare: Koh Lanta has a lot of food options to choose from providing digital nomads great value for money. A local Thai meal costs around $2 with American cuisine more expensive. The coffee and beer are a little more costly as compared to the local food.

The island has a couple of centers to treat emergency situations and a basic hospital. For a serious situation, you may have to travel to a bigger city such as Bangkok to get some help.

Weather and Crime Rate: the weather is beautiful with the sun shining throughout the year; however, there are bouts of rain from June-September which makes the roads impenetrable.

3)    MEDELLIN, COLOMBIA

It is the rising location for remote workers because of its excellent weather, friendly locals and a happening night-life. A digital nomad in Medellin can carry on business with clients in North America because it falls in the same time zone.

Accommodation and Wi-Fi: AirBnB apartments in the city will cost you $800 while only the room will cost you $400. Also available in the city are cost-effective hotels that provide a room costing $600 per month.

Medellin provides internet and Wi-Fi connectivity at great speed throughout the city.

Transportation: Mostly you can commute on foot around the city but for distances, there is a system of the metro. But it is advisable to take a cab instead as it not only will save time but will be cost-effective too.

Food and Healthcare: if you are a food lover, then you must rent out space with a kitchenette because good food in Medellin is expensive. There are other low-cost options available at $3.5 per meal.

Medellin is home to the best hospitals and doctors who can communicate in English. If your medical is insured then you may access the private hospitals too.

Weather and Crime Rate: Medellin is also known as the ‘City of Eternal Spring’ because of its pleasant weather throughout the year which is why it is a major attraction for many tourists and digital nomads.

The safety in the city has improved, but there are a fair amount of crimes and remote workers are not advised to travel on their own.
