Travelers Are Open and Friendly
Generally speaking, travelers can be a lot friendlier than the people you may come across in your day to day life. The freedom that the road brings is both uplifting and inspirational, which means people aren’t stressing about paying bills, being delayed or getting home. Your potential best friend, peer or mentor is looking around and will be open to all types of experiences including meeting you.
All in all, this is a strong and special reason to build and sustain your career whilst you are traveling, because these awesome people won’t be in your local office or home office.
Commonalities and Differences
Before, you even speak to a new person, you know instantly that you have a commonality and a deep connection, because you are both achieving your goal to travel. Perhaps, more interestingly though are the differences between you all.
The people you meet whilst traveling can have totally different life experiences, goals, habits and philosophies from you and each other. The more people you meet the more knowledge you can pick up and apply to your personal development, business and work ethic.
Learn something new from each person you meet! It doesn’t have to be work related or even travel related. All knowledge is good knowledge.
For example, after speaking with a Japanese traveler you could learn how Japanese culture actively promotes co-workers socializing together after work. This may lead you to prioritize networking opportunities or encourage you to attend the social event during a conference. Which in turn could lead to a rewarding sales lead, product idea or professional relationship.
Find your community, while you travel
You are here to achieve greatness, to turn your passion into purpose and profit. Unfortunately, this is not a shared goal across the board. Therefore, you may be misunderstood or mocked by your current co-workers, partner or family (hopefully not).
Staying at home, could make it somewhat impossible to grow freely and chase your dreams, because you aren’t surrounded by likeminded individuals. We all need peers to bounce ideas off, to seek advice and encouragement, to celebrate achievements and for support. Until you travel, you may never meet these kinds of people.
When you travel and locate yourself in the same area as like-minded people you can have everything, a peer and a community. You’ll have a place to belong and positively grow.
How to meet new people, when you travel
If you’re an introvert or a little shy when you are traveling you could be missing out on the most influential person in your life and we don’t want you to miss a single opportunity. So, here are some tips to help you to quickly boost your confidence.
- Remember, you are all “in the same boat.” Every traveler wants to experience something bigger than themselves and find their place within it. We are all equals!
- They are probably feeling exactly the same way as you. So, why don’t you take the lead and say “Hi, where are you from?”
- Perhaps you don’t know what to say when you meet someone
new, if that’s the case here are a few conversation starters:- “Where else have you traveled to”
- “Have you been to [insert city], I’m going there next, any advice?”
- “Can I follow you on social media? What’s your username?”
- “What’s the work culture like in your country?”
- The last tip is… do them the
