Efficiency is defined as the state or quality of being efficient, or able to accomplish something with the least waste of time and effort; competency in performance.
Efficiency (or lack of) is what can separate those who have accomplished more and those who have not.
It can also be what separates those who have a sense of accomplishment and those who do not.
In simple terms, efficiency is getting more things done well.
One thing that can really impair your efficiency is having too much clutter. Too much “stuff” on your desk, in your office, in that drawer where you put everything slows your efficiency. Get rid of that stuff.
I bet you only wear 10% of your clothes on a regular basis. Yet, you look through the other 90% each day as you get ready in the morning. Donate some of those clothes to the homeless and increase your efficiency at the same time.
You just saved 5 minutes in the morning. That could be time for foam roller stretching, meditation or a short walk instead.
Cleaning up your computer’s desktop can also increase efficiency. Do you really need all those icons? This can increase work productivity a bit. Your computer may even speed up.
How can you increase efficiency in your work even more?
You can do so my eliminating anything that is non-essential. For the most part, I bet you can do nearly all your work from a laptop. So, you don’t really need a big desk.
I bet you could use digital forms for basically everything in your company. So, a file cabinet and stacks of papers can be eliminated in a short period of time. You can scan old paper copies that need to be kept. Now you’ve streamlined even more and created more efficiency.
Efficiency is also in the way you think. When planning anything, consider how it can be streamlined and minimize the task. Shrink the problem.
Less is more.
Simple is better.
Clutter sucks.
Efficiency rules.
