Everyone is talking about it. People want to know. What will 2012 have in store for the fitness industry? First, we need to recap the good, the bad, and the ugly of 2011. John Spencer Ellis and Mike Mahler discuss what all new and experienced fitness pros MUST KNOW – and who and what to avoid – to ensure success in 2012.
Sometimes you have to look backward to know how to go forwards.
This is no exception. If you want to know how to be a leading fitness pro in 2012, you have to know what worked in 2011 and what has come to an end. DON’T think you already have it figured out! You will be surprised by what you learn in this controversial, honest, enlightening and compelling video. After you watch it, we want your opinion.
NOTE: I am joined by my friend Mike Mahler. Arguably one of the best kettlebell instructors on the planet and a really smart dude!

I enjoyed this presentation very much. Thanks guys!
I’ve been in this industry a very long time. I’ve grown up with it through thick and then.
I was attracted to it from the aspect of personal development. Honesty, Integrity, Speak the truth, love your friend, honor your father and mother. These principles will put you on the road to greatness, to have a full life. – (The Principles from Joe Weider’s “Muscle and Fitness Magazine”) -…and before him, Charles Atlas, Joe Bonano; guys from the 30’s that talked about the rewards of Dynamic Tension and the benefits of strength and stress reduction.
If we can’t sell Truth then what are we selling? I train and workout on a regular basis because it improved my life for a superior existence. I’ve improved my time on earth to be forthright and to lend myself to teaching others the principles of being able to love and give my earned wisdom to mankind.
Now we sell science and not gym science, although it’s all coming together with wisdom and the sanctification of truth. I once read a book that stated from a Russian Physicist, he said, “Fitness is a technology for the uplifting of consciousness.!” The truth is that it has improved my life, my perspective on life, enhanced my education and I’m eager to teach others the knowledge, and the discipline that goes with my belief and faith to continue my pursuit not of greatness so much, but to love myself and my fellow man.
You guys are going to take us to the next level!
Peace!!!

I’ve been a trainer for over 18 years (group ex and private), have worked at over 15 top gyms and studios all over L.A. I have a lot of experience and knowledge which I suppose makes me an “expert.” I’m also a blogger on health/fitness topics for HuffingtonPost/AOL. I think it’s hard for lay-people to differentiate who is a credible “expert.” There are plenty of people out there with certifications but little experience and not much knowledge. This also makes it hard for consumers to decipher what products and training methods are the real-deal – not gimmicks. Because I have a background in writing and video production, I have worked on many infomercials behind the scenes and learned a lot about product marketing. There is a very specific formula for selling fitness products (whether it’s a gadget or workout DVD). If you get the formula right, you’ll sell a ton of products whether they really work or not. Knowing this, I created an inexpensive product for home or gym use coming out in Jan. (2 min. infomercial). It’s a body weight suspension trainer for Abs and Pilates applications. I co-created it and use it myself. I REALLY hope consumers can see the difference between a legit product that truly works vs. products that are gimmicks! Time will tell.
Thanks for all your insightful vlogs John. And Mike, I’ve learned quite a few great kettlebell moves from your website.
PS – I also agree DVDs will be passe sooner than later. Digi downloads are the future.

Hey Jill
Thanks for your feedback and contribution. It’s just a matter of time before the less-than-ethical fitness “experts” fall.
We – the ethical – will rise higher.
