You and I can get caught up in all the things we want to accomplish for the day. If we don’t do a simple 5 minute ritual in the morning, we can really miss out on even greater fulfillment throughout the day.
Seriously, just take 5 minutes (maybe less) each morning and write down 5 things you are grateful to have in your life at that moment. Then, pause to think about how and why you appreciate each item.
I get it… it can seem a little silly or remedial. That’s what I thought at first. However, just doing this simple ritual does make you feel better.
Your list of 5 things can be added to the notes in your phone. You can keep a journal. You may have some type of online program you use. It doesn’t matter. Just do this each morning.
Ask yourself… What am I grateful for in my life right now?
Keep asking yourself that until you get your five for the day.
Then take a moment as you breathe deeply to really think about and appreciate each item on your list.
Yep, that’s it.
And, think about this… You may list a couple of the same items more than once in the week or month. That’s totally fine.
Science has shown again and again that people who have a greater sense of gratitude in their life have lower levels of stress, stronger immune systems and are generally happier throughout their lives. And, of course, they are more likely to be happier as well.
So, basically, there is no downside. So start right now.
