When you pull up your roots and put them down in a new place for however long you like, there’s a huge sense of freedom that comes with it. If you’re just about to start your journey as a digital nomad, you might be worried about meeting new people as both friends and business contacts.
Luckily, it’s a lot friendlier of a world out there than you think. Because there are other people like you who have all chosen to change their scenery and work doing something they love while seeing the world, you’ll have plenty in common from the start, no matter your backgrounds.
Cultivating friendships with people around the world is an exciting way to change your perspective. Your life becomes enriched and your eyes become open to more. Your cast of characters grows with both local friends and fellow expats hailing from all over the world, and your tapestry becomes richer. With that understanding, you can do better at your business because you’ll have a greater insight into the world around you.
Not sure how to meet new people? Here are some suggestions.
Language Classes
If you plan on being somewhere with a language different than your native tongue, it would behoove you to learn a bit of it. It challenges your mind and makes local life much easier. Plus, group classes are a fantastic way to meet other foreigners. You can also find a free language exchange with a local who wants to learn English as a trade-off for teaching you their language.
Walking Tours
What’s the point of moving to a new city somewhere else in the world and not experiencing it? A walking tour is usually free and a wonderful way to encounter other travelers. Maybe they aren’t staying long, but a new contact is always an open door for potential business. You never know who you might meet.
Join a Meet-up Group
Social media has made it even easier to connect with people around us, wherever we go. Use it to meet other like-minded people in your new area.
Use a Co-working Space
Right on time with the digital nomad trend is the arrival of co-working space. Too much solitude isn’t good for anyone, so some of your workdays can and should be spent in a shared space like this. You’ll meet others doing that work from afar thing too, and it could lead to more boom for your business.
Working for yourself anywhere and anytime you want to work is completely liberating. Without networking though, it can be lonely so get out there and meet those other digital nomads too.
