This type of lifestyle has been called telecommuting, digital nomadism and now location independent. Living this lifestyle seems like a lofty goal and it is reserved for a few people that have trust funds or those that are lucky to have the perfect, unattainable job. But this lifestyle can be done by everyone.

There are lots of jobs or ways that a person can be location independent, they are usually under these three categories:
Freelancers
A freelancer performs service-based work for numerous clients instead of working for an employer. Freelancers are usually self-employed and usually work per hours or deliverables. Many freelancers can be considered as entrepreneurs but it is not all entrepreneurs that are freelancers.
Entrepreneurs
An entrepreneur starts a business or creates a product that fits the need of a particular market. An entrepreneur is his/her own boss and has all the freedom to do what they want and make the order. A location independent entrepreneurs usually invent item or technology, import, export, or they created a business that can be easily marketed virtually.
Telecommuters
Telecommuters are the people that work for a boss but most of their work are done on their computers which gives them the flexibility to work from home or on the road. The only difference that telecommuters have over other categories is that they will need to be available during certain hours so that you can communicate with the office. It is not all telecommuter positions that have this advantage but most of them do.
What you need to consider before deciding to live a location independent lifestyle
Determine what are your goals
Before you decide to quit your job, you need to decide what you want as a location independent person. Is it to travel the world, stay and work at home, spend much time with your kids or your ageing parent?
Make a plan
If you love the work that you are doing, is it possible for your company to allow you to work remotely? This will then depend on what you do and who you work for. You can also ask around or your boss for this option.
Fine-tune your skills
You should also consider the type of skills you have, there are lots of work that can be done on a freelance basis. You can do works like writing, business coaching, proofreading, consulting, etc. all you need is a computer and a good internet connection. All you need is to make sure that what you choose is something that you like and something where you can easily get a job.
Figure out health coverage
You need to consider health insurance, for example, if you are getting this from an employer, you will need to figure out what you will do once that expires. You should make sure you map it all out so that it will not lead to potential problems.
Test the waters before you dive in
You need to know what you are getting yourself into before you leave your job. You can do this by building a freelance clientele first before you can then decide to cut your job off. There are also people that are not cut out to work independently as they will miss their coworkers or they cannot stay motivated. You will need to make plans for this so that you can be happy once you decide to quit your job.

- You can decide the best time that is suitable for you to work.
- You can easily work from the road as this will allow you fulfil your longtime dream of exploring the world.
Cons
- It can get lonely
- You need to be self-disciplined because there is no boss to hold you accountable.
- You can easily get distracted
- You can get lost in your work that you can go pass the hours you should be.
