Living a simplified life is an art and a joy not many people know how to master.
We are so engrossed in our perfect routines and hectic lifestyles that we fail to realize that living a simplified life could bring us so much joy, and ease.
We unnecessarily complicate things, when we could simply adopt a more simplified lifestyle.
Life is short; why not spend it enjoying simple things in life?
Why take unnecessary stress and pain?
Why get stuck doing jobs we don’t like?
Why stick to routines we don’t want to follow?
Why live in one country, when there are so many places to explore.
The monotony and unnecessary complications in life simply kill the joy.
You weren’t born to spend all your life confined to one place, doing the same old job, living among the same people.
You were born to enjoy the simple joys of life.
How can You Simplify Your Life in Order to Enjoy a More Enriched and Stress-free Life?
Every single person defines simple living differently. However, in a nutshell, living a minimalist or simplified life means that you are decluttering anything, be it mental or physical, so that you can make room for the things that you actually love doing and are most important to you.
The following are a few suggestions based on my personal experience to make our lives simpler and bring back the lost joy.
Of course, you don’t have to do everything present on the list below, instead, you can create your own list focusing on the things that you enjoy doing the most and getting rid of things that are depriving you of your mental peace.
Be Your Own Boss
The best way to simplify your life is to break free from the monotonous 9 to 5 job routine.
Now you don’t have to travel every day to a place far away from your own place in order to earn a livelihood.
You can make money from the convenience of your home, and literally working from your own bedroom.
There are many websites online that can help you in this regard.
An Online business can help you simplify your life in so many ways.
When you don’t have a fixed 9 to 5 job, you can spend more quality time with your friends and family, exploring different parts of the world, and pursuing your dreams.
Morning Routines Increase your Productivity
I am all in for morning routines.
The thing about morning routines is that when you stick to a consistent morning routine, you tend to be more productive and able to achieve more in a shorter span of time by still having the whole day to yourself.
Also in the morning time, your mind is clear and fresh, free of any toxic thoughts that won’t let you focus.
It might come as a surprise to you that many successful people start early and have found great value in planning their day early in the morning. 10-15 minutes of an early morning routine is most fruitful and productive as compared to your whole day.
Also, mornings are comparatively quieter and more peaceful. If you could work in the fresh air early in the morning, taking in the fresh air, enjoying the scenery at the same time, it would turn out to be the most refreshing and oxygen pumping experience for you.
And your routine doesn’t have to be long either. A lot of successful people have found value in taking 5-10 minutes each morning to plan out their day.
Spend Less Time on Social Media
Another tip that can simplify and improve the overall quality of your life is something we all struggle with.
We spend hours and hours on social media.
It has almost become a habit for us to keep on checking our phone every two seconds to see if there is any new notification or a text waiting for us.
This is one toxic habit that we don’t realize until it finally starts taking its toll on us by affecting the quality and relationships of our life.
You have no idea about the time that gets wasted each day checking Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat notifications that could otherwise be spent doing something productive.
The best solution to this addiction is to discipline yourself by creating a daily planner which allows you to check social media for a fixed no of times each day.
Reward yourself for sticking to the planner; even punish yourself if you happen to violate the predefined rules in the planner.
Declutter Your Life
Now another great tip I have for you in order to simplify your life, adopt a minimalist lifestyle by decluttering your life.
Consider getting rid of items that you no longer need or are just lying around your place without serving any purpose.
Have you ever wondered how cool it would be to surround yourself with only the stuff that you truly need and absolutely love?
It’s no doubt the most amazing feeling when you let go of clutter and accessories that are putting pressure on you and having them around only drains you emotionally.
For instance, if your closet is a hot mess, chances are you are never going to find your favorite shirt; instead, you would end up tripping over piles of shirts hanging half way from your closet to the floor in the walkway.
When life gets busy, many things tend to get messed up and take a backseat in your life, as your priorities have changed now. Here organization is the key. I would highly recommend you to dedicate your Sundays for decluttering, sorting out and organizing your stuff. The decluttering process will drastically improve the quality of your life.
Lay Down Monthly and Yearly Goals
Most people love setting New Year’s resolutions, but seldom they get them done.
Reason?
You can’t achieve your goals until and unless they are real goals set by you in place. That’s why I highly recommend you to keep your goals as a loose guideline, while you set yourself some doable goals every month, it could range from 3 to 4 goals monthly. Also, make sure to plan for 6 and 12 months’ goals in advance.
Any long goals could be broken into small chunks so that they are easy to accomplish.
Create a Priority for Each Day
This tip is a game changer; especially for those procrastinators who waste a lot of time just thinking about how many things they need to get done through the day, they get so overwhelmed by the huge to-do-list, that in the end, they end up doing nothing except for wasting time.
In this regard, prioritizing your goals for each day comes handy.
Try to prioritize at least 3 goals from your list and try to achieve them by hook or by crook.
Try to write your list of to-do things a night earlier (if possible) or first thing in the morning for all the things you need to get done that day.
Carefully study your list, and pick up on the most urgent tasks that need your immediate attention, it’s important to list them in order of importance.
Prioritizing your goals will save you from wasting time, unnecessary stress, and will even cut you down on costs (Of course, when your meals are pre-planned, you won’t have to eat out or order food in the last moment).
This way of prioritizing your tasks will also hold you responsible for your actions, no more blaming more on, “I woke up late and didn’t have to plan anything.”
When everything is pre-decided, it takes less time to get into action.
When everything is pre-planned or pre-decided, you would stress out less and would be left with more time to focus your energy on more important chores throughout the day.
Remember prioritizing is the best way to combat the problem of procrastination and make yourself accountable for your actions.
Learn to Say No
This tip might come as a surprise to you, but trust me saying no will save you on many occasions and will help you simplify your life to a great extent.
Saying no is maybe the hardest thing to say for a person, but it will reap you some great benefits in the long run, as it’s so important for you to reserve your precious time for the most important things in your life.
It’s absolutely okay to say no at times, as you can’t always be there for people at all times. You have your own life and priorities, and deadlines to meet. Hence be brave and learn to say no.
Setting healthy boundaries and taking out time for yourself are traits that are crucial for living a well balanced, healthy life.
Hire a Virtual Assistant
If you think the huge workload is causing stress in your life, then you can also simplify your life by hiring a virtual assistant.
A virtual assistant will help you accomplish the tasks which you find drag and lead you to procrastinate.
But before you hire a Virtual assistant, you should give them full training to do research work or anything technical that can save you a lot of time in the long run.
For e.g., from calling clients to answering emails, uploading images to answering phone calls, or fixing technical errors on your website, a virtual assistant does it all. Basically, it all depends on you, how you utilize their services to your advantage.
Let Go of Toxic People
We all know how toxic people drain your energy. They suck.
You can tell when you are around a toxic person; they deprive you of metal peace, weigh you down emotionally, and deprive you of sanity, too (in extreme cases).
In short, they are toxic, and we should try staying away from such who only bring about negative energy into our lives.
A toxic person could be anyone, from a toxic life partner to a bad friend, a judgmental family member to a neighbor, but the thing to remember is, there shouldn’t be any room in your life for them.
The only people who deserve to have a place in your life are the ones who encourage and motivate you, support you in your hard times.
Hence, don’t let toxic people drag you down to their below the belt low level, letting them go is the wisest thing to do in any case.
Schedule Time for Self-Care
When we get busy in life, we start neglecting ourselves, which can turn out to be dangerous in the long run, both – physically and emotionally.
Self-care is essential in any case.
Remember, self-care is crucial for your overall well being and mental health.
Make sure your daily planner should have a dedicated time for self-care each day.
I understand you are busy, but taking out 10- 15 minutes from your busy schedules each day can leave you rejuvenated and your mind refreshed which will be rewarding in the long run.
Shop Online
In this fast-paced world, if you don’t make use of technology, you will surely lag behind.
Now you don’t have to go out to shop or travel to another part of the world to get the accessories you desire.
No waiting in the long queues to get your grocery done.
Everything is delivered to your doorstep by a single click of your finger.
So in order to make your life simple, I highly recommend you to use the advanced technology to its fullest.
Start Investing
In order to enjoy simple living, you need to sit down and do some serious future planning.
With a steady flow of cash in hand and decent savings in your bank account can help you achieve a simpler life in the future, free from any worries, and the liberty to travel anywhere in the world.
Hence, I highly recommend you to start setting aside money now and enjoy early retirements, life with all the amenities that you need in order to live comfortably, and becoming financially independent.
Hence, starting as early as possible is best because the earlier you start the more you are going to save for your retirement period.
Learn to Slow Down
The last tip I have for you is to learn to slow down.
It’s okay sometimes to skip work and catch up on sleep.
It’s okay to order food and have a no cooking day once in a while.
It’s okay to stop worrying about work and chill out with friends.
It’s okay to cancel a meeting instead spends some quality time with your loved ones.
You don’t have to feel guilty about being human.
It’s easy to rush in life and forget about taking care of ourselves and enjoying simple things, that life has to offer.
That’s why it’s so important to slow down and live in the current moment.
Why it’s Important to Simplify your Life?
When you simplify your life, you are in more control of what happens in your life, you learn to be happier with minimum things, you waste less time and be organized, and you are more emotionally strong.
All of this will allow you to enjoy a more wholesome life, free of unnecessary burden, and guilt let you enjoy your life to the fullest.
