Gone are the days when jobs were only limited to four walls of the office. It is now the time to work fast forward at the highest speed. The world has advanced and even working techniques as well. I am a nomad, or you can also call me a digital nomad. I work and travel at the same time.
In the beginning, everything seemed hard to me. The idea of enjoying life and working at the same time was just an illusion. But later, I realized that if you want something wholeheartedly, then there will surely come out an opportunity.
The traditional way of working was never my forte. However, I always searched for an alternative way. After years of research, I have found that I can work and even enjoy my life traveling. Currently, I travel a lot, and on the same note, I work a lot too.
However, do you think it was the same at the beginning? The answer is NO. We must accept the fact that nothing is easy at the beginning. Moreover, it is in the initial state that we have to work very hard. The main obstacle I faced during the initial years of my digital nomad life was “working while traveling.”
So here am I with this blog, which will help you out if you are a new digital nomad and if you are facing the same problem as I did. Here are some of the best tips for working while traveling. You can use this blog as a guideline to organize your plans for your trip.
Take It Slow
Curate your itinerary carefully while you decide to work on travel. Remember that you can travel and explore as many cities as you want, but it will surely hamper your work. On my first trip as a digital nomad, I planned a 6-day trip to the big cities in Germany.
Six days might sound like a long duration for a vacation. Yes, it is, but nor while it comes to Germany, and it is barely enough time if you are traveling and working at the same time. It was surely stressful, and I could not enjoy the trip.
But what I learned from the trip was something valuable. From the very next time, I carefully curated my itinerary and visited a few cities. This gave me the scope of exploring every corner of my destination alongside working.
Book Wisely
Along with the planning where to travel, you should even give thoughts about where to stay. In my initial digital nomad life, I visited expensive cities London, Paris, and Berlin, and to maintain my budget, I stayed in low-cost hotels and hostels.
According to my thoughts, I was making a good choice. But was I? No, I wasn’t. While working and traveling at the same time, you should consider some pivotal aspects. Remember that you should have a calm working atmosphere and accessibility to the internet.
Whereas, as a newbie, I thought that I could work anywhere with average speed internet. However, I won’t commit this mistake anymore. Later on and to date, I plan on visiting low-cost cities and stay in Airbnb rather than booking any inexpensive accommodation. In with way, I do get a good working atmosphere and good access to the internet, which is the heart of my work.
Coworking Spaces Are Your Buddy
Not every place you will visit will be work-friendly. On your digital nomad journey, you will come across places where working from the accommodation becomes hard. For instance, if you are on long-term travel, then it is hard to stay in Airbnb or an expensive hotel.
In this case, you will have to figure out some other way. This is when coworking spaces work best for you. Before heading to the destination, search for coworking spaces near your accommodation. However, if you haven’t found any, then there is nothing to be disappointed because there is another solution too.
That is coffee shops, and these places have food, internet, and even privacy as well. You can work there for hours without feeling bored. Coffee shop entrepreneur culture is now prevalent in many places in the world. You won’t even well uncomfortable working as well.
Research Wi-Fi Speed
Our world is filled with beautiful places, but unfortunately, not all places have Wi-Fi accessibility. When living in a European country, it is hard to tell how life would be without the internet. But I have experienced the scarcity of internet service while I was exploring an Asian country.
I found the internet there, but the speed was so slow that it was hard to send an e-mail to a client. The internet is the heart and soul while you are a digital nomad. Moreover, a slow internet connection will surely affect your work efficiency. It is pivotal in this case to do proper research about the internet services of your next destination.
Get Some Work Done
So, now when you have decided to travel, get some work done. There can be many critical situations on your trip. For instance, you might not have good internet, or you might be too busy exploring the new place, or you might even not find an appropriate surrounding to work.
Therefore, do not leave your works on pending and finish as much as possible. Yes, I understand that you cannot get over every project all at once. Hence, don’t freak out and make a list of the important works.
Sort them according to their deadline and make any important calls beforehand. You can definitely work while you’re traveling, but arranging and organizing your works are a pivotal part of a digital nomad’s life. Therefore, work in advance to get rid of excess pressure on travel days.
It isn’t that hard to travel and work at the same time. All you need is a little motivation and determination. The world is to explore and let nothing stop you from doing this. It is completely upon you to make work travel as easy or as complicated.
As a digital nomad, you have the capacity to design your life by your rules, and this is the whole point about remote working. Therefore, do not stress out and work along with exploring the world.
